Depends on your position on the subject in my experience it is better to use your spouses benefits then bankrupt her/him when your policy runs out of benefits...you can almost never get 6 yrs each instead of three pools of money of 4 yrs each...so depending on what your needs are....it's really a matter of do you think you will outlive a 4 yr plan or do you need the peace of mind of having unlimited coverage...

ultimately what pocket book risk are you willing to take..
