Lois, the question may be "do you want your husband in a VA hospital...for ANYTHING." If indeed you cannot afford LTC insurance and you qualify for free Veterans care (which you will have to qualify for financially) that may be one's only choice. However, if you cannot qualify financially, I seriously encourage you to visit the closest VA and check the quality of care, or lack thereof. I think you will be very surprized with what you find. Most VA's are sub-par to say the least and I wouldn't have my spouse subjected to insufficient care. Yet, I'm sure there are excellent VA's SOMEWHERE. Hopefully, close to you if you need it.
