Adrienne,
Nearly every long term care policy today will pay for care in an assisted living facility. However, you must realize, that a long term care policy will not pay just because you move into an assisted living facility. There are many people who move into assisted living facilities while they are still quite healthy. Generally, healthy people move into the 'independent living section' of an assisted living facility.
What triggers the benefits of a long term care policy are that you need assistance with at least two of the activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, transferring or maintaining continence).
So if you were to move into an assisted living facility, but you did NOT need assistance with 2 of the 6 ADL's, then the policy would not pay any benefits. But once you began to need assistance with 2 of the 6 adl's then the policy would begin to pay its benefits.
Does that make sense?
