: I thought I would share what I did do get LTC insurance. In March 1999 I had a major medical problem and after this I tried to buy LTC Insurance but none of the top rated insurance companies would write me a policy. I belong to an HMO health plan and my medical file is a foot thick. I started a hard exercise program (I run about 100 miles a month) and I kept a log of what I did (Date, time, milage, route, weather, etc.) then I asked my HMO to put this log in my medical file and provide it to insurance companies. I am happy to report that GE Long Term Care issed me the new LTC Choice policy the one that waves the elimination period care if you use the Privileged Care Coordinator. If you are having problems getting LTC insurance then go to work on your medical file, work with your doctor and get his/her help. I also had my doctor write a letter about my "good" health and put it in my file. Don't give up!
Thanks for sharing that, Alvin. In addition to working hard to build an acceptable medical file, if people only knew the "misstatements" and diagnosis errors that exists in their medical files, they would be in their MD's face, ASAP! Many an insurance case has been rejected due to bad info in medical files. I encourage everyone I know to request a hard copy of their "entire" medical file, from each doctor they see, and request a copy of each additon to thaose files as they see the doc's. It's just like your credit report. If you want it to reflect accurate information, you'd best know what the transcribist has typed in it. People make mistakes and MD's practice CYA better tham nost professionals. If there's someting in your file that is in error or needs further explanation, talk to the doc, ASAP!!! Oh, you have a "right" to see your file, don't let the medical records receptionist in the doctor's office tell you otherwise.
