: I have been looking into ltc insurance and an agent has caught my ear with this UNUM indemnity policy. It appears that most other plans do not work that way. Is this a good or a bad thing.
It depends. If you purchase enough coverage to cover the actual cost as well as the costs typically covered by fee-for-service plans you will be able to pay for TV, meds, other extras. Indemnity also means that you will receive all that you have paid for. That is, if you have $150 a day coverage, but are in Assisted Living at $100 a day, your insurance will pay $100. With the Unum you will collect the full $150.
A disadvantage...If you are alone at the time of coverage and are not competent, someone will need to handle your money. Some people do not want that.
Also, indemnity is a bit more expensive.
I have Unum coverage because I tend to be an independent cuss.
Best to you
