What is she talking about regarding raising premiums? Is she way off base or misinformed.
If you read her article it seems like she is saying premiums are being raised on infroce business, not new policies.

Steven,
She's not misinformed, nor is she way off base. Several leading long term care insurers have raised premiums on in-force, long term care insurance policies in the past few years.

Scott;
I may be wrong, but I don't believe Fortis ever raised rates on existing policyholders. And, although Travelers did file for an increase last year, I haven't heard of any state approvals yet. BUT,I may be wrong on this as well.
I do know that neither Fortis nor Travelers ever had a rate increase on existing policyholders in NY.
Incidentally, Terry Savage is a HUGE proponent of LTCI.

Hi, Arthur.
As usual, New York is the exception.
Fortis Benefits Ins. Co. did have about a 15% rate increase in about 13 states a few years ago.

The NY DOI is pretty tough.
There have only been 2 rate increases on exisiting policyholders in NY's history.
The first was a small block of businees (less than 500 policyholders) in 1990 by CNA and the second was a 15% increase last year by............................
CNA
I see a pattern developing here.

CNA was certainly in the top 5.
Conseco Senior Health was also at their peak.
