 Chronic Bronchitis
Author: Dennis

I'm trying to place LTC for a 54 year old female who is being treated for chronic bronchitis. Has been turned down once. There is a long history (over 10 yrs) of steriod treatment. Otherwise she is in very good health. No other Rx's and height/weight is good. Any suggestions for quality companies that may write a substandard policy.

Thanks

Dennis:

4 questions:

1) Has there been any history of hospitalizations?
2) Is she a smoker?
3) What is her dosage of prednisone?
4) Is she now, or has she ever used oxygen?

Either smoking and/or a history of hospitalizations could be a major problem and an automatic decline with a number of companies.

Oxygen usage is an automatic decline with everyone.

Also, each company has a different tolerance for a dosage of prednisone (steroids). Most companies will tolerate up to 10 mg/day.

I have found that the most liberal company for someone with respiratory problems on prednisone is GE Capital. I've placed people who take up to 20 mg./day.

Once you have the answers to these questions, call GE's underwriting hotline and they will let you know if they will consider.

Arthur
