 Non-resident license?
Author: Larry Plite

Hi,

I have been a resident and agent in Florida for several years and I must move back to Ohio soon for personal reasons but I want to take my renewals with me if possible. I represent several companies in regards to LTC insurance.

I believe some of the agents on this board have non-resident licenses and I would appreciate any information regarding this procedure. For example, does Fla require a test, do I have to be a resident of Ohio first and how will the co's I represent now react to this?

I have tried to contact the Fla state ins dept. several times but they appear to be overwhelmed although I will have to get thru to them eventually.

Thanks for your help. BTW, any agents here in Ohio and hold a Fla non-resident license?

Larry

Larry;

Bottom line is you're probably going to have to check with the Ohio DOI. Each state is different. I would assume that many states have reciprocity agreements regarding licenses. Once you're a Ohio resident it may be able to change your non-resident to resident. You may want to hold on to your FL license and eventually you'd need a FL, non-resident license, once you've moved back to OH.

As far as your relationship with the carriers, that is probably different with each one. A number of carriers selling LTCI in OH are probably the same ones, that sell in FL.

I can't see them penalizing your renewals just because you have a change of address.

Same goes for the companies in FL that are not selling in OH. You need to check with each one to see how they handle this.

Larry, I sent you an email on details, but it bounced back. Are you listing a valid email in your bio???
