The concept of “Aging” has grown from a simple medical concept to one that is at the forefront of a modern understanding of our social fabric. The admission that this is not just a process but a true passing into a cultural group that is faced with unique challenges was raised to a whole new level with the introduction of the Association for the Advancement of Retired People (AARP). This group began to define the change from an every-day working member of society to what has now become known as the “Senior Citizen”. Gone was the idyllic notion that a retired person was only concerned with enjoying their time in leisure.

Health concerns, the financial challenges of a fixed income, and the unveiling to the public conscience that as a group, older Americans actually suffered from discrimination were all pushed forward into public debate. One of the purposes of long term care insurance is to supplement the physical and mental strengths that advanced age has diminished.
